International Women's Day in the Maritime Sector: Nadia Ibarra

To commemorate International Women's Day in the Maritime Sector (May 18), we interviewed talented women who collaborate with Grupo Industrial Durandco and Blue Marine on the high seas.

In this space, we asked a series of questions to Nadia Ibarra Carrillo, first cover officer. Nadia is originally from Ocuituco, Morelos.

What values as a woman do you consider fundamental to transmit to your work team?

Responsibility, respect for other people so that there is a good work environment and commitment since we must carry out the functions assigned to us efficiently.

What skills do you consider to be the most important to succeed in the position you have today?

Leadership, since one must convince people, the team, to achieve objectives. You also have to have critical and analytical thinking for each of the circumstances that come our way.

What inspires you every day in your work?

It motivates me to get a better position in the future. To become a captain.

How do you feel that the Durandco Industrial Group, in this case the Blue Marine subsidiary, has supported the inclusion of women in the sector?

Unlike other companies, Blue Marine does offer great inclusion and equal opportunities.

What do you like most about working at Blue Marine?

Which is a 100% Mexican company. It has a strong presence in the Campeche probe. It has several boats for different purposes.

What advice would you give to students to follow their dreams in this career in the maritime sector?

I would advise them to always dedicate time to themselves, to be able to achieve their professional and work goals, but to never stop thinking about themselves. It's not all going to be work, but you also have to leave a little time for yourself.
