North America is home to the largest number of oil rigs in the world.
Between Mexico, the United States and Canada, we have 779 land platforms and 15 active underwater platforms.
However, these figures are lower than in previous years, but sanctions on Russian exports led to increased exploration activity in North America.
As published, Mexico currently has an operation of approximately 115 oil platforms.
The location of the vast majority of them is in the Gulf of Mexico, an area known for having a wide variety of hydrocarbon resources so that they can be obtained.
Oil platforms make it possible to extract large quantities of oil and natural gas that are necessary for the operation of daily consumption. In addition, they also provide employment to many people, thus contributing to the economic development of the nearby areas where they are located.
As indicated, each oil platform is made up of a giant structure, which can measure up to 200 meters high and weigh more than 25,000 tons, which were built to withstand inclement weather and extreme ocean conditions, such as hurricanes and storms.
